Let's face it - summer is a major mood for our team and is definitely our favorite season. Not just for the love of pool and beach days filled with sand, salt, and sunset golf cart cruises, but it allows us to travel more, too.
Traveling always allows our team to mix a little business with pleasure. No matter what combination of co-workers, friends and family we've got with us, and despite where we are, work always somehow forces its way into vacation.
By the way - we love it.
Being so attached to our careers allows us to bring them into every avenue of life. From meeting new friends that introduced us to Vestal Village, to finding sea glass on the shores of San Francisco, to stumbling into an axe throwing room/art gallery in Denver, the world has its way of greeting us with new work opportunities.
Elizabeth and her husband Philip travel all over the country throughout the year. While fall and winter make it more difficult with unpredictable weather conditions, summertime is perfect to drive cross country with the RV in tow, and Puggy Sue definitely likes the warmer weather for camping as well.
This summer the Walker's traded Florida for an adventure of a lifetime, as they kicked off the season with a trip to Colorado, where Elizabeth held her first gallery showing at Skye Gallery in Aspen. Aside from work, Elizabeth and Philip also got to hang with family in Carbondale and Denver and do some sightseeing in the lovely state where the two met.
Being in the mountains known for gem and fossil mining, Elizabeth and Philip also worked on seeking out new materials for jewelry. They came back with some rad stuff, some of which is still a secret and currently in production! What they also brought back to Florida was inspiration - of colors, landscapes, memories and more to pour into the nature-inspired jewelry line.
In August, Elizabeth and Philip geared up again for a trip to Elizabeth's family home on Powers Lake, Wisconsin. For those that are wondering, I was working in the studio on new designs and manning the shop on these adventures, in between my own travels as well.
Powers Lake was more than just a vacation, as they mixed business with pleasure once again. Elizabeth was able to display and sell pieces from her collection while Philip did the same with his art.
Both road trips took the Walker's through different parts of the country, and when it was all said and done they had traveled through about 20 states. This trip was a plan the Walker's had always had on their bucket list - and are so grateful that it was able to happen this year.
They're even starting to plan a bigger, longer and more successful cross country trip next year, and are excited to see what the open road has in store for them.
They were able to see so many different regions of the country, as they drove past endless fields of wheat in Kansas, listening to the way they whistled in the wind and feeling the sensation of being close to nature. In Santa Fe, Elizabeth was inspired by the Native American influence and found ways to incorporate the southwestern aesthetic into her jewelry line. She and Philip also have a deep love for the South, and frequent New Orleans annually, but traveling through other southern states gave them even more insight to the Deep South culture and influence in American history.
With another successful trip in the books filled with reuniting with old friends, getting some quality family time in, and slinging jewelry and art, you can definitely say the Walker's had a summer for the books.
