September didn’t exactly grace us with her presence this year, as a category 5 hurricane was forecasted to hit the east coast of Florida head-on over Labor Day weekend.
Thankfully, us Floridians didn’t get the worst of it. Hurricane Dorian stayed about 80 miles off shore as a category 2 storm by the time it reached north Florida, but our neighbors in the Bahamas didn’t fare so well. Unfortunately, it caused major devastation throughout the islands and major relief is still needed.
Our community and business still suffered, however, in terms of losing revenue and having to close down shop for several days. Our team, like all other businesses on the barrier islands of Jacksonville, was faced with the decision to leave town under mandatory evacuation orders, or hope the storm takes a turn into the Atlantic.
We had been tracking hurricane Dorian for about 5 days before we knew for sure what the impact would be, as the storm moved slower and slower across the Caribbean and Atlantic oceans. It was almost like a sick joke, as memes started circulating social media about Florida Man, and the confusion from meteorologists just made things worse.
In order to not risk anyone’s safety, our town also suspended alcohol sales and closed all bridges to the mainland, which is when you know things were getting serious.
Ultimately the storm calmed down and we were technically only under a hurricane warning by the time it skimmed the coast but it was still a huge bummer. What was supposed to be an amazing and productive work week was basically shot, and we were too tired to resume later in the week because, well, hurricane snacks.
In fact, Labor Day weekend was going to be the kick off of our Buy One Get One Free Sale. But thankfully the perk of running your own business means you can just move a sale or event around your personal schedule, or in this case hurricane season!
So as of today our post-Labor Day/Hurricane sale officially starts!
We are offering our beloved customers buy one piece (value of $150 or more) and receive a FREE shell necklace #837. These shell necklaces feature hand wrapped miniature tiger shells on either a gold vermeil or sterling silver chain (of your choice, of course)
The necklaces have yet to actually be released and loaded onto the website until today, and we think this is the perfect time to introduce them in the spirit of Florida and our love for ocean treasures.
More details of the sale can be found in our latest Instagram and Facebook posts, and if you have any questions, please leave a comment or reach out through LiveChat, email, social media, text message, or phone call.
