Not every story starts out with "that one time in the middle of the desert at 3am..." but when it comes to how I met Elizabeth and landed my dream job as her Assistant Designer and Online Store Manager, that's basically how it went down.
For those of you who don't know me, my name's Ally, and I've been working for Elizabeth for nearly 3 years now. I've always wanted to make jewelry but was never sure how to start on my own, so this job has not only been a blessing, but also made a huge impact on my life. I'm forever thankful for Elizabeth and her husband, Philip, (and of course Puggy Sue and Shelby) and how amazing our little work family is.
About a week before I was traveling to Indio, California for Coachella in 2016, I reached out to Elizabeth about the potential job opportunity. Since the epic music festival was a week away, we decided to schedule the formal interview a few weeks out. However, Elizabeth was also going to be in California the same weekend for Vestal Village, an invite only music festival that takes place at Lake Cahuilla State Park, just down the road from Coachella's festival grounds.
To make a long story short, my friends and I left Coachella around midnight one night to meet a mutual friend who was also at Vestal Village with Elizabeth and Philip. A seven mile, nearly two hour, very expensive Uber ride (due to festival traffic) followed by telling the security guard how we "lost" our wrist bands, we finally arrived in Vestal Village and were able to meet up with everyone. Oh yeah, we also all fell asleep on the ride over, too.
Hanging around the campfire until dawn playing Two Truths and a Lie may not be the appropriate first impression, but it sure payed off when Elizabeth and I finally "officially" met once we were both back in Florida. Obviously, she gave me the job and the rest is history.
Since then, Elizabeth has taught me the art of jewelry design, and together we have traveled the country, even going back to Vestal Village a year after we met. We've shared many long work days, and plenty of laughs, tears and late night meals together over her kitchen table. I can't say enough how excited I am for our future with Elizabeth Sarah Collections.
You can find me on the production line in the studio, at every ESC trunk show, as well as behind the computer screen writing these blogs and keeping the community updated on our events and new products. Learning the trade has not just become a career but also passion, and seeing the joy the creations of Elizabeth Sarah Collections can bring to others is truly an inspiration for me.
