This blog is appropriately named because for the past several months, Elizabeth has been juggling her full time job running Elizabeth Sarah Collections and managing the sister company philipbennettwalker.com all while stepping out of her comfort zone to create her newest line of solid gold and diamond shark tooth necklaces.
As the millennials say "the struggle is real" but we truly don't feel like the grind has been a hinderance to the team. If anything its made us appreciate each other even more and find balance in assigning tasks and keeping organized. Since this is Elizabeth's first run working with a master jeweler on these techniques, there's no telling when she'll be called on to trade one studio for another and learn the next steps.
This has always been a lifelong dream of Elizabeths. She is so thankful that this opportunity allows her to educate herself to a higher level of jewelry design - a goal she set when she first started her company in 2006.
Since we wanted to keep you all in the know with this process and updated on products, it's time to fill you in on the next steps!
As far as continuing the design process, picking out the perfect shark teeth was priority, and took Elizabeth endless hours as she sorted through her stash of thousands, sprawled out across her kitchen.
Because she loves Mother Earth and her ocean treasures, it was crucial that the teeth chosen to represent this collection were all unique in terms of size shape, and texture, and of course keeping it local to our East Coast beaches.
Once the tooth was chosen that she wanted to showcase, Elizabeth learned the process of making the mold, then casting it in solid 14K and 18K gold. This way the gold picked up the imperfections of the natural tooth.
While this is a longer process, Elizabeth felt it was a more genuine way to honor mother nature's beauty than by making a generic mold of what a shark tooth "should" look like.
Another reason why she wanted to use real shark teeth was to highlight the individual characteristics that go along with the size and shape of each different species.
For example, when she designs the diamonds to be set, Elizabeth considers how thick or thin the root is, the curve of the fang, serrations, et cetera. Then, she'll choose the diamonds to fill in the ares that she wants to accent.
There really is no limit to her creations - but they will be sure to stand out and compliment not only the person wearing it but also celebrate the wonderful ocean at our backyard and forever close to our hearts.
This way each one of the teeth in this collection are truly one of a kind. That is a guarantee that these pieces are completely exclusive to the Elizabeth Sarah Collections line of fine jewelry.
We don't want to give too much away until each necklace is done, but you can find small reveals and sneak peeks on our website, Instagram and Facebook stories.
