1735- Coin Necklace

$345.00

My love for the American West is what drew me to this coin.

The Indian Head/ Buffalo Nickel is 75% Copper and 25% Nickel and was minted between 1913 and 1938.

This coin was designed to commemorate the American Indian and was introduced at the proposed National American Indian Memorial. The portrait on the front is a combination of three Native American chiefs who modeled for sculptor James Earle Fraser; Chief Iron Tail, Chief John Big Tree, and Chief Two Moons of the Lakota Sioux Nation.

The Buffalo or American Bison is a religious symbol to Plains Indians who believed that the Great Spirit would withhold sustenance if they were not attentive to their spiritual needs. The Buffalo also symbolizes motion, imbalance, reserve, intense life, and a mythology that embodies an aspect of the American national self understanding.

All coins are electroplated with 24kt Gold on Cable Chain and accented with Labradorite at Lobster Clasp
