Creating handmade jewelry isn't something I do because it's trendy or part of this new artsy hipster movement. It's not because I watched a few YouTube tutorials and thought "Hey this seems easy enough." Its a dedication to the ancient art of wire wrapping and designing with precious stones and metal that I have learned to perfect and pour my heart into. Over the past decade I was able to start my own handmade jewelry business, support my family, hire my own staff, and I have made cherished memories every step of the way. Its my career, my creative outlet and my purpose in life.
It's important for me to emphasize my belief in handmade jewelry and the originality that comes from working with your hands and seeing the finished product. While many designers use sources outside of their office or studio, I'm proud to say that I can claim my jewelry line is designed and made by only the hands of myself, along with my production team: my design assistant, Ally, and my faithful East Coast metal smith. I am extremely proud of the work I put out and never claim the work of something or someone else. I'm proud to be a local independent artist who believes in the power of her team and community.
Rather than outsourcing or buying mass produced products, the jewelry from Elizabeth Sarah Collections is handmade by my small team, and carefully curated to represent what I love about Mother Nature. All of the jewelry I design and create has a story. Whether I design with Citrine gemstones that remind me of the golden light shining from Aspen trees, or a memory from a vacation that inspired a necklace made with Blue Topaz to represent the beaches of Mexico, each piece of jewelry is near and dear to my heart.
Growing up, I have always been a creative soul. You can even say it's in my blood, as my grandfather was a painter and both my brother and sister are successful graphic designers. Eventually I knew I would end up in the arts, and it started when I fell in love with jewelry as a little girl. Growing up I would always play dress up with my grandmother's jewelry and wear it around all day. I was fascinated by the sparkle and different designs, and now it's become a tradition that every time I visit her we go through her jewelry together.
To this day I still have as much fun getting dressed up and draped in jewels as when I was a young girl. Every time I'm traveling or come across a new local event, I always come home with new jewelry because it not only represents where I was when I got it, but also the work and story of another artisan.
It was later on in my college years working part time as an apprentice to a jewelry designer in Colorado that inspired me to start my own business, Elizabeth Sarah Collections. During that time I also met and fell in love with my husband Philip, who also happens to be an independent artist. Together we eat, sleep and breathe art.
Focusing on my brands commitment to authentic creativity, quality of material, and genuine customer service are all essential components of Elizabeth Sarah Collections. This business morale, combined with my love for all things handmade truly sets my jewelry apart.
