Amazonite, named after the Amazon River in Brazil where it was originally found, is a beautiful opaque gem that ranges in color from a milky green, to blue-green and even turquoise. It can sometimes have a mottled green and white pattern, and even display a faint sheen. 

Amazonite is a variety of green microline feldspar, of which, followed by the quartz group, feldspars are the most common mineral in the world. In fact, feldspars make up 60% of Earths crust! 

Today, Amazonite is found in the United States, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Russia, Australia, Namibia and Madagascar.

Amazonite was known historically to be used by semi-mythical, all-female Amazonian tribes who wore the stone as part of their shields. It has also been worn as jewelry by ancient people in Central and South America, as well as Egypt, dating back thousands of years ago.

Known to have strong healing properties, Amazonite is believed to balance masculine and feminine energy, and create stronger physical energy and stamina.

Although Amazonite is said to heal all chakras, when placed specifically on the throat or heart chakra, it can enhance communications in one's love life.

Amazonite is also frequently worn by gamblers, as it's said to attract good luck and fortune.
